VideoRitratti di Gallura’, an exhibition by documentary filmmakers Gaetano Crivaro and Margherita Pisano, the opening of which has been extended until 11 November.

EXHIBITIONS

In the exhibition galleries of the Organica Museum, as part of the contemporary art section, ‘Soglie’, the new solo exhibition by the artist Cristina Meloni, curated by Elena Calaresu, will be on display.

In *Soglie*, Cristina Meloni explores the boundary not as a clear-cut dividing line, but as an unstable space in which the usual coordinates of perception are subverted, calling into question the observer’s position. The research originated within the framework of PAS – Progetto Atelier Sardegna (2014–2015), stemming from the artist’s observation of gates and boundary walls encountered whilst travelling throughout the region. These are elements that make a boundary visible, without their meaning being limited to their material substance: a threshold can be physically marked out, but it can also be suggested, perceived and internalised. From this reflection emerges a journey which, over the course of around ten years, spans exhibitions and installations, focusing on the sky, vegetation and landscape. “In ‘Organica’,” writes curator Elena Calaresu, “we are presented with a selection of three depictions of clouds, sky and water, captured directly from reality and not digitally altered. It is in their visual rendering that the artist’s mastery of audiovisual language is revealed: photographic and moving images which, whilst drawn from real-world experience, we nevertheless struggle to situate within a meaningful context. The artist’s mastery of audiovisual language is evident in the control exercised over the image, both in its photographic composition and in its rendering in motion, as well as in the relationship it establishes with the exhibition space. With the aid of monitors, light-boxes and visual projections, Meloni articulates a conscious relationship with the medium of the screen, entrusting each device with a different mode of access to the image. This is not a matter of denouncing the technological mediation through which we are accustomed to perceiving reality, but rather of exploring its possibilities: not merely a means of transmitting the image, but a boundary in itself, the space within which the image comes into being.”

Cristina Meloni (Alghero, 1983) is a visual artist, cultural practitioner and lecturer at the Foiso Fois Art and Music High School in Cagliari, where she currently teaches Graphic Design, Audiovisual Studies and Multimedia. Her training includes a specialisation in the Art of Photography and Advertising Graphics. Following a substantial period of research and experimentation carried out in Italy and abroad, in 2015 she chose to settle in Sardinia, making the island the focus of her artistic exploration. Her poetic exploration addresses the themes of limits, boundaries and migration, understood not only as physical geographies but as symbolic and existential territories. Through a rigorous method based on observation, recording, cataloguing and reproducing nature and the natural flow of events, the artist transforms natural phenomena into a visual metaphor, capable of exploring the most intimate, fragile and hidden nuances of human experience and memory.

In the ground-floor hall of the museum, ‘Atlante. Video Portraits of Gallura’ continues until 11 November. This multimedia exhibition brings together a selection of eight interviews produced by L’Ambulante, a research laboratory founded by documentary filmmakers Gaetano Crivaro and Margherita Pisano, as part of the ‘Atlante dell’innovazione’ project, curated by Lidia Decandia and Leonardo Lutzoni for the University of Sassari.

Through voices, images and sounds, these short films recount experiences, practices and ways of life found throughout Gallura, painting a picture of a region undergoing transformation. Spanning ancient stazzi, new rural economies and contemporary ways of living, the VideoRitratti weave a multifaceted narrative of Upper Gallura, highlighting the potential for change and the challenges that lie ahead.

REDESIGN THE FUTURE

The day will continue in the afternoon, from 3.00 pm, with the closing event of“RI-VESTI IL FUTURO – sustainable fashion through creativity, awareness and local innovation”, a project by CEAS Tempio, funded by the Region of Sardinia and organised in collaboration with the Organica Museum, with the aim of raising awareness amongst young people and the wider community about the environmental and social impacts of fast fashion and promoting practices of reuse and responsible consumption.

The programme includes activities focused on sustainable fashion, including a‘swap party’– an event open to the community, designed to breathe new life into clothes and accessories and rediscover the joy of sharing and reusing. Participants can bring clothes, shoes and accessories in good condition and swap them for items brought by others, helping to reduce waste and encourage a more mindful and sustainable approach to fashion. Any items not swapped will be donated to the charity Omnia APS in Tempio Pausania.

There will also be two free workshops: the ‘Ri-vestendo’ upcycling and creative tailoring workshop, led by the artist Antonella Spanu, and the ‘Nel blu dipinto di blu’ antotypia workshop, led by Rita Virdis. Places are limited. For information and bookings: 347 2570908 (Laura)

The afternoon will conclude with a presentation of the accessories created by the pupils of the De André Art School during the project. This will be an opportunity to showcase the pupils’ creativity and share the results of a project in which the recovery and transformation of materials become means of expression, giving rise to new creations that combine originality, reuse and sustainability.
