Innesti (Grafts)

cotton thread, galvanised wire

Daniela Frongia’s Modular Grafts compose an architectural structure with a fluid and soft movement suspended in the void between granites and towering pines that modifies the perception of the landscape and surrounding space. The work is composed of three hundred modules of various sizes, made of galvanised iron wires manually covered with natural white cotton threads. The work fits in permanently and in full dialogue with its host environment. The individual modules are assembled to one another through knots (approximately 20,000 knots in total), clinging to the large granite stones until they evolve into an architectural structure suspended in the void between two large pine trees.

The work expresses the human need to relate to nature.

The installation, grafting itself into the landscape, offers an alternative route to the visitors, leading them to cross and establish a connection that is not only natural but also cultural.

Artist

Daniela Frongia – “Daniela Frongia’s career as an artist is configured as an experimental and constantly evolving act: she dialogues with herself and the world around her through performances, she investigates the present and today’s culture with photography and videos, she expresses herself through painting, installations and weaving. Her thoughts are like tangles of threads that manifest themselves in reality through the slow and rhythmic gestures that accompany the conception of her work at the loom.
