Museum of Environmental Art in the Limbara Park

The Museum of Environmental Art in the Limbara Park ORGANICA was established in 2020 to promote and enhance the natural and landscape heritage of Sardinia. ORGANICA carries out a reflection on the territory in its physical, anthropological, environmental and ethical dimensions through contemporary visual languages. All of the ecomuseum’s activities are developed around the Curadureddu forest, on the slopes of Mount Limbara. Here ORGANICA proposes a double path dedicated to the relationship between art and the natural world through site-specific works installed in the open air in the nature of the park and the temporary exhibitions set up in the exhibition rooms of Spazio CEDAP.

Along the paths, among the trees or in the small clearings, it is possible to visit the permanent works of the museum all year round. The installations dot the park-museum along an immersive path among holm oaks, cork oaks and Mediterranean scrub: a 360° land art experience in which the visitor is led to actively explore the biodiversity of the forest. The approaches and materials selected by the artists are diverse and interact with the environment through continuity or contrast. Twelve artists have so far been involved by curator Giannella Demuro, representing some of the most interesting outcomes of contemporary visual research in Sardinia. The collection is being expanded and will host four new works by the artists Giusy Calia and Antonello Fresu, Marcello Cinque, Valentina Daga and Alex Pinna in 2025.

Having finished our walk among the works of land art, we find ourselves in front of a structure that unexpectedly stands out among holm oaks, pines and Mediterranean scrub. This is Spazio CEDAP, a small jewel of contemporary architecture designed by architect Antonello Menicucci. The structure reconverts an old trout hatchery and stands in an area of great landscape value, not far from the natural pools of Rio Pisciaroni.

And it is precisely in this space that the second part of the journey offered by ORGANICA takes place. The two exhibition halls host art and photography exhibitions by artists who focus their research around the complex relationship between man and nature. The 2025 programme, inaugurated with a special preview dedicated to Igino Panzino, will host personal exhibitions by the visual artists Pastorello, Fabiana Casu, Flatform, Valentina Daga and Giulia Sale. Alongside the contemporary art exhibitions, there will also be photographic exhibitions by Francesco Cubeddu and Domenico Ruiu, an exhibition by the illustrator Toni Demuro, as well as special projects ‘Suber – cork between design and sustainability‘ and ‘La via dell’acqua – dal progetto all’opera’ (The waterway – from project to work), realised in collaboration with CEAS. realised in collaboration with the CEAS Tempio.

ORGANICA takes you on a journey to discover the territory through contemporary visual languages. The workshops, open-air performances, and cultural trekking appointments, dedicated to discovering places and reflecting on the themes of environmental sustainability, are open to everyone.
