Starting on 24 May, ‘I Costumi del Macbeth’ (The Costumes of Macbeth), dedicated to the costumes and sketches created within the ‘Teatro Dentro’ workshop realised with the guests of the ‘Paolo Pittalis’ Prison in Nuchis, will be open.

Now in its second year, ‘Teatro Dentro’ is a project funded by the Department of Prison Administration that was created to offer educational and cultural opportunities, enhancing the individual and his or her capacity for change.

Protagonists of the exhibition are the costumes made during the workshop conducted by costume and set designer Fabio Loi for the stage project dedicated to Shakespeare’s Macbeth directed by Chiara Murru. The works recall hybrid figures, references to the animal world, contrasts between shadow and light, theatrical volumes, symbolic details. Each element contributes to building a powerful imagery, capable of dialoguing with Shakespeare’s tragedy and with the biographies and sensibilities of those who participated in the workshop. A central feature of the project is the choice of using recycled materials: regenerated fabrics, reused components, recomposed fragments. The costumes thus also become an example of sustainable practice, where reuse is not just a technical solution but a creative and cultural gesture. The exhibition also presents the sketches made by the inmates together with Fabio Loi: collages, visual notes, juxtapositions of textures, images and signs that tell the design phase and the birth of the characters. The exhibition curated by the Museo Organica represents a step of great cultural and civil value: the materials on display leave the prison and meet the public in a museum space, making visible a pathway in which theatre, training, manual skills and artistic research are concretely interwoven. It is not just a question of presenting a final result, but of sharing a process: the idea, the experimentation, the collective construction of scenic language.

“I Costumi del Macbeth” marks the first stage of “RI-VESTI IL FUTURO – moda sostenibile tra creatività, consapevolezza e innovazione territoriale”, the new project of CEAS Tempio in collaboration with Museo Organica that throughout 2026 will involve young people and communities on the environmental and social impact of fast fashion, promoting responsible consumption behaviour and alternative models based on reuse, upcycling and valorisation of local knowledge and materials.
